President’s Letter

Forgive me for a brief note this month–I’m writing to you from Europe, where Open Source Week has just begun. (And personally, where I’ve escaped the snow and ice storm that has blanketed much of the Eastern US. I hope those of you still in it are staying warm and safe!) It’s been great over the decades watching what once was some free and open source software enthusiasts gathering at ULB in Brussels for FOSDEM become a full week of events focused on every aspect of open source software. If you’ve never been, it’s a whirlwind of activity. At FOSDEM alone, it’s nearly impossible to see every talk that interests you or to meet every person you’d like to talk to. And now there’s an entire week of events spreading even beyond Brussels!
I’ll again be representing ASF on a panel at OpenForum Europe’s EU Open Policy Summit, as well as in a talk and a panel at FOSDEM. If you will be there yourself, be sure to come see the ASF talks on the schedule! If you’re not able to be there, follow along with the #FOSDEM and #FOSDEM2026 hashtags on your preferred social media of your choice, and watch the livestreams of your favorite devrooms.
Happy Open Source Week!
Ruth Suehle
President
