ALC Taipei’s presence at Computex 2026 marked a major milestone in bringing the Apache Way to one of the world’s leading technology events. Throughout the event, volunteers connected with attendees, introduced ASF projects, and shared what it means to build software through open collaboration and community-led governance. Tim Saucer, PMC member and primary maintainer of Apache DataFusion’s Python bindings, joins PlusOne to share how he went from frustrated Apache Spark user to open source maintainer and how the project is using LLM-powered “skills” to help keep its Python API in sync with the upstream Rust library. Apache Polaris is helping establish a vendor-neutral standard for managing Apache Iceberg tables. In a recent interview, PMC members Jean-Baptiste Onofré (Dremio) and Yufei Gu (Snowflake) discuss how contributors from competing companies collaborated under Apache governance to build a shared standard, the project’s extraordinary release velocity since graduating as a TLP in February 2026, and where the roadmap is headed.
