Community Over Code North America is just two weeks away, and we can’t wait to see many of you there! If you plan to attend and haven’t yet booked your hotel, please note that the room block deadline has been extended to August 27. Booking within the block helps the Foundation manage conference costs—your support makes a difference. You can find more details in the latest President’s Letter below.
The ASF has released its FY25 Annual Report which highlights new tools, programs and contributor support for the fiscal year that ended April 30, 2025. This month’s newsletter also features new Plus One podcast episodes, project news, and highlights from recent ASF news coverage.

President’s Letter
I’m going to start this month’s note asking you for a favor. If you’re attending Community Over Code North America, please start here. If you’re not, feel free to jump to “and other things” below.
Unfortunately for our conference attendees, the night of September 10 (the night before the event begins), the hotel is now entirely full. The good news is that it relieves The ASF of our obligation to fill our room block for that night, but it does not relieve us of that financial obligation for the rest of the week. If you have not booked your room yet, you have until August 27 (deadline extended!) to help us out with the room block, but you will have to stay nearby for the night of September 10. I know it is a huge inconvenience to change hotels, but it is also a huge favor to the Foundation and The ASF’s budget for conferences.
My recommendation if you stay elsewhere would be to then come to the event with your bags on Thursday morning and check them with the front desk of the Hyatt. If you have any questions about doing so, please feel free to reach out, and I am happy to help you figure out the details. The Foundation’s budget, the conferences team, and I all appreciate your help!
And other things…
Next month, I’ll be participating on The ASF’s behalf in the third Open Source Congress. It is now being organized collaboratively by the participating foundations with a new structure and will be held September 16-17 in Brussels. Day 1 will be only for non-profit open source foundations leadership. Day 2 is a Stakeholder Day, open to industry participants, public policy bodies, and anyone else in the open source ecosystem. I’ll be moderating a panel on Sustainability and the Open Ecosystem on day 1.
If your company or organization is interested in participating on day 2, the agenda includes discussion of key international challenges in the open source ecosystem, such as cybersecurity, economic sustainability, and policy and standards work. I’m happy to answer any questions you can’t find on the website or put you in touch with someone else who can!
Now one last request for help with Community Over Code–and it’s a fun one. I’m planning to host a trivia game night during the conference. Categories to include general nerdiness, pop culture, software, open source history, and obviously, ASF-specific things. I’d like your help suggesting questions, particularly in that last category! ASF history–fun facts, things people might know, reasonably guess, or be excited to learn if they didn’t know it before. You can submit questions here.
Sincerely,
Ruth Suehle
