Community Over Code Asia kicks off this week in Beijing, and we hope you’re able to attend whether in-person or virtually. Project highlights include first-time contributor spotlights, a new episode from the Plus One Podcast, and a call for help refreshing Apache.org. Plus, the ASF recognizes our sponsors and thanks Myrle Krantz for her service as she steps down from VP Infrastructure.

President’s Letter

Happy Community Over Code Asia week! Even if you aren’t in Beijing, virtual attendance is free, so I hope to “see” you there. Or if you’re reading this after it’s over because it’s July, and you’re getting in just a bit more summer fun, you’re not alone in slowing down this month! Definitely enjoy that now and check out the recordings later. (Those of you in the southern hemisphere, don’t worry–summer will be here before you know it!)
Last month I shared two exciting keynotes for Community Over Code coming up in Minneapolis in September, and this month I have two new pieces of information to share. First, although I know many of you were as excited as I was to hear from Roy Underhill, he will unfortunately no longer be able to join us due to personal circumstances.
But second, I can share that we will be welcoming Omar Mohsine, who leads the open source team in the United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technologies, to talk about the fantastic work of the UN OSPO. It’s been amazing to watch open source grow at the UN over the last couple of years, empowering the model that we know so well to serve global public needs, and I look forward to having Omar share it with all of you.
Sincerely,
Ruth Suehle
