The ASF has elected a new Board of Directors and welcomed 45 new members as we ready ourselves for FY2025 that kicks off May 1. While the CFPs for Community Over Code NA and Asia have closed, applications for travel assistance are still being accepted.
We would also like to welcome our new EVP, Jeff Jirsa and again thank outgoing executive vice-president (and former president) David Nalley for his service to the Foundation. Jeff’s work at the ASF includes many years as a committer and PMC member of the Cassandra project, as well as serving as a director on the ASF board in 2024-25. Jeff is thrilled to start his new role as EVP for the foundation, where he hopes to help the ASF adapt to a changing tech landscape.

ICYMI: Last month the ASF Initiatives and its first fundraising effort, the Tooling Initiative, was launched. The ASF’s team dedicated to supporting this work has kicked off a project to support Apache Trusted Releases. If you want to join the effort, visit https://tooling.apache.org/.

🚨CFP Closed!🚨 The call for presentations for Community Over Code NA has officially closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted a talk this year. Speaker acceptance notifications will be sent out by May 19.
One track is still accepting talks, though–our new “sharing” track for all your interesting passions beyond software. You can continue submitting those until early May 31.
If you are hoping to attend Community Over Code North America or Asia but are unable to for financial reasons, the ASF’s Travel Assistance Committee may be able to help cover some of your travel costs.
- Applications for travel assistance to CoC Asia (Beijing, China) are due by May 9.
- Applications for travel assistance to CoC NA (Minneapolis, MN) are due by June 14.
Potential applicants should read https://tac.apache.org/ fully before applying.
Ready to apply? Visit https://tac-apply.apache.org/.

President’s Letter

I think one of the most exciting things happening across the open source ecosystem is the increasing collaboration among organizations. We’ve spent many years working in silos, but we’re facing more and more issues that are best solved by doing the thing that we all know best–collaboration. Participating in groups like the Eclipse Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group, our role as OSI Affiliate members, and our partnership with Alpha-Omega help us reach solutions to common problems the open source way. This past month I was elected to the OSI board on behalf of not just the ASF, but all the Affiliate members, and I look forward to what my term there brings.
I am also excited to welcome Jeff Jirsa to the office of Executive Vice-President and look forward to Jeff’s new contributions in this role! I want to extend my thanks to David Nalley for his service to the Foundation over the years.
As a reminder, the ASF’s infrastructure team still has open positions to fill for sysadmins. If you or someone you know would be a great fit for ASF staff, preferably working on European time zones, please take a look at the job description and apply!
Sincerely,
Ruth Suehle
